Installation Procedures

1. Install units as close to the hazardous areas as possible.
2. After installation the unit should not be a hazard itself with protruding fittings or barriers
3. Emergency equipment should be installed in accessible location that require no more than 10 seconds to reach and should be within a travel distance of no greater than 30.5 meters (100 feet) from the hazard.
4. Emergency equipment should be connected to the main potable supply having a minimum pressure of 45psi (3 bar) and maximum of 80psi (5.5 bar). Any pressure lower than 45psi (3 bar) will not give the desirable flow rate, and may result in non-compliance.
5. Do not use pipe sizes smaller than the inlet size of the unit. For eyewash units, piping should not be smaller than 1/2 IPS* and for drench showers they should not be smaller than 1/4 IPS.
6. Discharge water temperature from equipment should be in the comfortable range of 15°C to 35°C (60°F to 95°F)
7. In circumstances where chemical reaction is accelerated by water temperature, a medical advisor should be consulted for the optimum temperature for each application.
8. If shut-off valve should be installed for maintenance purpose, it is recommended that the shut-off valve be under lock and key, so as to prevent unauthorized closing of the valve.
9. Emergency equipment that are installed in remote areas of the workplace or in hazardous locations, an audible alarm system maybe installed. In the event that the equipment are being used, it is to alert or summon help.
10. Whenever possible, a filter should be provided upstream of the eyewash to remove particles from the water and prevent additional eye injury.
11. Installation procedures should be in accordance with proper plumbing practices, with supply sized adequately to meet flow requirements.
12. All dimensions given in this catalogue comply with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI Z358.1) and should be adhered to in installation.
